It is in the thick of the summer and as Chicagoans know, summer is the best time of the year. There are free programs in the city parks where you can soak in the sun and enjoy your day. In addition, there are a lot of activities happening this summer. Every year, hundreds of thousands of visitors come to Chicago to enjoy the Mid-West.
Here are things that you can do this summer:
Aug 2: Watch the best American players MLS All-Star play against Europe’s greatest club Real Madrid.
Aug 4 – 6: The Jefferson Fest Arts and Music Festival will be happening at Jefferson Par. Grab your djembe and be part of the drum circle or jam at the live stage.
Aug 4-6: If you are a Slasher Flick fan, then head to Rosemont for the Flashback Weekend Chicago Horror Convention.
Aug 5-6: Chicago will host the first ever Taste of Korea Chicago Festival and it will feature a K-pop dance contest, a karaoke contest and DJs.
Aug 5: Are you a fan of crafty beer? Then head to Lincoln Square for the Welles Park Craft Beer Festival and enjoy delicious new beers.
Aug 5-6: go with your family and friends to EdgeFest and enjoy the festival food and the locally-crafted goods which are available for purchase.
Aug 10-20: Go to Illinois biggest event, the Illinois State Fair and enjoy ten days of fried food, grandstand performance and butter sculptures.
Aug 11-13: Go to one of Chicago’s favorite pastimes, the Chicago Hot Dog Fest which will feature the best sausage vendors in the city.
Aug 11 – 13: Get a taste of Cuban music at Festival Cubano which will held at Riis Park.
Aug 12: Attend the charity kickball tournament along with your team and play the Chicago Kickout with Chicago Sport and Social Club.
Aug 18: Head to the massive Rogers Park art scene at Glenwood Ave Arts Fest and sample the art and craft from over 100 vendors.
Aug 18-20: Head with your kids to the Edison Park Fest for a great outing and enjoy the magic shows and the jugglers.
Aug 18-20: Head to Festa Italiana and participate in the meatball-eating contest among the many celebrations of Italian-American culture.
Aug 19-20: Watch the U.S Navy and Army pilots dazzle the crowds with their planes at North Avenue Beach.
Aug 21: There will be a giant block part at Adler Planetarium to watch the solar eclipse complemented with other activities including food trucks, trivia and telescope viewing.
Aug 24-27: If you are a nerd of a fan of Harry Potter, head to Rosemont for the Wizard World Chicago Comic Con and nerd your heart out. However, remember to dress up for the special occasion.
Aug 25-27: Sample the four-wheeled eateries at Logan Square Food Truck Social and enjoy the music programming from the Empty Bottle.
Aug 25-27: Taste of Greektown was a massive success last year. For another year running, go and celebrate Greek culture with its food, music and dancing.
Aug 26 -27: Discover new art at the Bucktown Arts Fest that features over 200 artists. In addition, there will be food, drink and music.
